I understand you're experiencing an issue where voice chat suddenly stopped working in a specific scene, even though it works in other scenes. Let me help you troubleshoot this.
Based on the Normcore documentation, here are the most common causes and solutions:
Check RealtimeView Ownership
RealtimeAvatarVoice requires the RealtimeView component to have an owner to function properly. The component uses ownership to determine whether it should send audio (for local players) or receive audio for playback (for remote players). Voice Chat
Make sure your avatar prefabs in the problematic scene have proper ownership set up.
Verify Scene RealtimeView Initialization
If you're using RealtimeViews that exist in the scene file (rather than instantiated prefabs), you need to wait until the connection is established. The RealtimeView uses
Start() internally to register with Realtime, so you need to ensure:
- realtime.connected == true, or
- The didConnectToRoom event has fired

Check Microphone Permissions and Settings
Verify your default microphone device settings. If you're on a platform that requires microphone permissions (Mac, iOS, or Android), ensure your microphone permissions and Microphone Usage Description are set correctly in Unity. Voice Chat Common Questions
Additional Troubleshooting Steps
1. Check your player logs for error messages - Normcore will print error messages to console if something fails
2. Verify that the AudioSource component is properly configured on your avatar prefabs
3. Ensure the Realtime component is properly connected to the room in the problematic scene
If none of these resolve the issue, I recommend checking your Unity console logs for specific error messages that could provide more insight into what's happening.
