Hey Mecha this is something we'd love to offer but there are some challenges in how would be best to implement it.
Any games that are in development that actively need this please reach out to us so we can talk further.
I’d love to hear examples from folks on what they’re trying to implement in their game with this feature so we can ensure we ship the right API
I want to see if different regions have better connection chance in China
The other more typical use case is 2 players in different regions that want to play together on a specific region
Is there any progress about region selection? This one particular missing feature causes so much problem for players in matchmaking 😢 Manually trying to separating players by region is nearly meaningless, because one player with the best ping always chooses the region in the end =/ e.g. 3 players in Turkey and 1 player in US possibly start in a US server (when all players select EU as region) and this'll be in favor for US player. Or is there any other possible solution to this while we all waiting for region selection?
it’s in the works, but probably not expected until this summer at the earliest. we have it as a Normcore Private feature but bring it to Normcore Public will take some time
This summer sounds great! I hope it won't be delayed 🥲 atm, we have to introduce a "fake" region selection to at least try to reduce the ping problem for matchmakings. BTW, as always, if you folks need anything from us (testing, feedback, etc), please let us know!
And, a question, may I share server ip-location list in here? We'll use the list for determining the player's region, so maybe other devs in here might use it. We've identified 25 servers so far.
fwiw they’re not static, we scale up and down every day, adding a few hundred servers per region and each one has its own IP that’s ephemeral
The addresses aren’t a secret but I wouldn’t want to post them because they can change at a moment’s notice
and we’re often evaluating different data centers / providers and rerouting room spin up requests as some have better performance throughout the year
the preferred region API will let you pick a region and then the backend can look up the ideal datacenters within that region
